Club Rules

The rules governing how the Fencing Club operates are decided by the committee and regulated by the Athletic Union. Proposed amendments to all three guidelines documents (see links) can be submitted to the committee prior to the Annual General Meeting and the election of a new committee.

Club Kit

Use of Club Kit

All members are entitled to use club kit during training sessions. However this is strictly on the understanding that the kit is properly cared for. Members found to be abusing Club kit will be asked to refrain from using it in the future. We do not have much kit, and what we have must be respected. The following guidelines aim to ensure that the Club kit is maintained as well as possible:

  • Only take out of storage that which you require at the time
  • Ensure that any kit you take out is properly put back. This means electric weapons in the plastic sheaths in the box, jackets in the right bag, etc...
  • All members present at a training session should check that the kit is fully packed away at the end of the session. IF KIT IS NOT PUT AWAY IT IS NOT SAFE
  • Spools and other portable electric equipment set up at the start of the session must be put away at the end.
  • Loaning of Club Kit

The Club may loan individuals or groups of members kit for certain events. However, members must always have the permission of the armourer who keeps track of all club kit. Kit may be loaned out in the following situations:

  • BUSA Team and Individual Competitions
  • Non-BUSA Club Competitions
  • Club fundraising events
  • Those requesting a kit loan should submit a list of desired kit to the armourer, with dates. The armourer will then decide if the Club is able to loan kit based on any previously arranged commitments for those dates.

    Signing out Kit

In exceptional circumstances an individual may sign out Club kit for personal use. This is subject to the Armourer's approval, and on the understanding that the kit must be well maintained and returned on request. Signing out kit refers to extended loaning for longer than a few days or for more than one event, an example would be a sabre mask, that was a particularly good fit, for a team member who did not own a mask themselves. The following conditions apply to all potential kit sign outs:

  • No kit required for beginners sessions may be signed out. This is to enable all beginners to fence.
  • Beginners wishing to sign kit out for their own use at training should be aware that their request is likely to be turned down as the Club does not have enough kit to accomodate full kit loans to everyone.
  • Members showing greater commitment, and regular attendence at training sessions are more likely to have requests accepted for a kit item they use regularly and wish to take responsibility for, for the year.
  • All kit signed out must be washed (if applicable) and returned within a weeks notice if requested.
  • No kit may be signed out over the Summer Holidays
  • Basically - ask the armourer - he's in charge of kit
